Zemirah Koiki

Zemirah is a youth advocate and student based in Christchurch, currently studying at the University of Canterbury. She works at the intersection of youth mental health, equity, and community-led development, with a strong focus on the experiences of migrants and ethnic minorities in Aotearoa. Her work is grounded in youth-centred design, systems thinking, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi in action, committed to supporting equitable access for all young people in Aotearoa.
She has led and contributed to a number of grassroots and policy initiatives, served as Vice President of the University of Canterbury Muslim Student Association (UCMUSA) in 2024, acts as an advisor to the NZ University Muslim Students Association (NZUMSA), and sits on both the youth advisory council of the Islamic Women's Council New Zealand and executive teams of the National Islamic Youth Association.
Outside of academic and community spaces, you're most likely to find Zemirah cruising on her longboard or knee-deep in a DIY project.
